Susan Scott MICHT

My name is Susan Scott. I work as a Complementary Therapist and am a member of the International Council of Holistic Therapists. I started out as a Reflexologist, but continued my studies and became qualified in the following practices. I will briefly outline how each Individual treatment can help.

Reflexology:

Reflexology is an ancient healing art first practised by early Indian, Chinese and Egyptian cultures. It is also a science based on physiological and neurological study. As an effective form of therapeutic foot massage, it is a holistic healing technique (holistic meaning whole), that does not isolate disease and treat it symptomatically, nor specifically work on problematic organs or systems. Reflexology deals with the whole person to restore balance and harmony and also reflect the well being of the emotional mind.

Reflexology benefits the Immune system encouraging healing. It improves circulation, cleanses the body of toxins and impurities, balances the system, revitalises energy and reduces stress, inducing deep relaxation. Reflexology can reduce stress levels to enhance the immune system and assist the person in tolerating the side effects of antiretroviral drugs, it can also relieve pain, and encourage people to take control of their own health and increase their ability to cope.

Aromatherapy:

Also known as the sensual science, aromatherapy combines the powers of touch with the sense of smell. Massage using essential oils is a therapeutic treatment for both mind and body, which works mainly on the nervous system, it is both holistic and practical in that it helps to protect the body’s life-saving immune system and can energise or stabilise the emotions. Aromatherapy can effectively relax mind and body through smooth and gentle strokes, or stimulate through deeper strokes to improve circulation of blood and lymph. Absorbed through the skin and inhaled through the olfactory system, essential oils are antimicrobial agents and can be useful in treating specific opportunistic infections such as one might expect with HIV/AIDS.

Indian Head Massage:

The traditional art of Indian Head Massage is based on Ayurveda (Sanskrit word) meaning “The science of life and longevity”. Ayurveda is the world’s oldest recorded healing system and its approach to health is a balance of mind body and spirit, and the promotion of long life. Traditional Indian Head Massage was used on the head only. In the West we have adapted the massage to include the shoulders, upper arms, neck and face, these are the main areas vulnerable to stress.

This is a massage of the soft tissue in the upper arms, shoulders, neck, scalp and face and includes pressure points. It is an effective de-stressing programme for the whole body, with many physiological and psychological benefits.

Hopi Ear Candling:

Candling has been used by many cultures since ancient times as a natural effective therapy. We can now benefit from the calming and medicinal effects of this age-old Indian relaxation ceremony. The treatment will induce a pleasant feeling of warmth and balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It can relieve earache, headache, migraine, sinusitis, rhinitis, colds flu, tinnitus, stress and nervous tension. It is also beneficial for conditions such as vertigo or poor balance, loss of hearing and compacted wax. The physical effect has been known to bring about a wonderful sense of deep relaxation.

Reiki

Reiki is one of the most ancient, purest forms of natural healing. It is a gentle but powerful hands-on technique, which can be used alongside more traditional medicines and therapies. Reiki is a Japanese word meaning “Universal Life Force Energy”. Rediscovered in Japan by Dr M Usui over 100 years ago, Reiki considers the whole body and all “matter” as an energy form. A Reiki practitioner will act as a facilitator to channel this energy to wherever it is needed in the body. Individuals who suffer chronic stress related illness could expect fewer flare-ups with regular treatment from a qualified practitioner.
